Wednesday was National Nurses Day, and I know that you join me in saluting the awesome work that our nurses have been doing on the front lines. They’ve been working dutifully, passionately, and tirelessly in the worst situations imaginable.
I am in awe of them.
Who are your heroes? Who are the unsung people who have been slogging through the worst of times as your organization manages its way through the pandemic?
Often, these are people who will surprise you. Pay attention to those who step up and make a difference. They are your future leaders.
Think about the roles that they will play in the post-pandemic environment. Their functional roles might stay the same, but their informal roles may escalate into important strategic ones that will help rebuild your organization.
Roles will change. A junior person with great potential may have a new set of responsibilities that will set her on fire in your “new” organization. Someone who has always done same old, same old may not have a place in the new environment.
If you play your cards right, you will transform your company into a stronger, more efficient entity where your heroes can be play a starring role.
This is time to think about these possibilities and plan for implementing them. It can be very exciting to envision what is possible, so enjoy the process.
