Thoughts on Freedom and Food

As Independence Day in the United States occurs on Monday, it’s an appropriate time to reflect on freedom and food. If you hadn’t thought of pairing those two topics together, it’s a natural given the holiday.

Any time I hear people say that they’re trapped in their lives, they’re implicitly saying that they don’t feel free. But it also infers that they are holding themselves as victims to their circumstances. Victims are not free; they are captive to their conditions.

Freedom begins in the mind. When you cherish and embrace freedom, it becomes an essential value to live by.

Think about how freedom affects you personally. Do you feel it in your life? What would make you feel freer? What is one thing you can do to enhance your freedom during the summer?

You can ponder this while you embark on the holiday weekend and prepare for taking some quality time for yourself. In fact, what better time to reflect than over your grill? (I’ll bet you were wondering how I was going to segue from freedom to food…..)

If you’ve been working so hard that you haven’t had time to think about your holiday food fest, here are some ideas to inspire and whet your appetite.
