“Repetition of the same thought or physical action develops into a habit which, repeated frequently enough, becomes an automatic reflex.”
– Norman Vincent Peale
Earlier this year I conducted a management development program for a client. Last week, we had a follow up video call to answer questions, reinforce the content, and celebrate successes.
I was truly impressed by how well everyone is integrating the content in their activities. Their success stories were inspirational, and you could hear the excitement as they shared their victories.
Three observations stand out vividly from this call: follow-up, preparation, and practice.
Follow-up is a way to make sure that what you have conveyed is being correctly applied and utilized. Kudos to the leaders of this company for enthusiastically embracing not just our initial program, but having a reinforcement session.
I discovered that the most conscientious of the group are diligent about preparing for their team meetings. They think through and evaluate the points that they want to make. They carefully craft their message, matching it with their employees’ communication styles.
They also critically assess their effectiveness at these meetings, and make notes on how to be even more successful the next time.
They practice in order to master these skills. They rehearse with friends, family and co-workers to become more comfortable and confident.
This company is fortunate to have such a passionate group of management professionals. They embraced the opportunity to learn something new, and it’s paying off. They are more self-assured in their work, and have the results to show for it.
Doesn’t it feel great when you learn something new and adapt it successfully? I hope you have many opportunities to do the same.
