Every March 8th, International Women’s Day celebrates the achievements of women around the world. This year’s theme is inspire inclusion, encouraging people to eliminate stereotypes and to value and respect women.
Your organization may be excellent in terms of inspiring inclusion, and for that you should be commended! Others, however, have some work to do, particularly in women’s leadership.
“Leadership is hard to define, and good leadership even harder. But if you can get people to follow you to the ends of the earth, you are a great leader.”
– Indra Nooyi
Women bring a wealth of talent and diverse perspectives to the table. Studies show companies with more women in leadership outperform those without. It’s not just about fairness, it’s good business.
So how can we break down barriers? Organizations can offer mentorship programs, flexible work arrangements, and unconscious bias training. We can also celebrate existing women leaders and create a culture that empowers women to reach their full potential.
What can you do to enhance women’s roles as leaders in your company? If you’re behind in promoting women into leadership roles, you can start immediately by placing women into project or team leadership roles.
Present these opportunities and give them the support they need to be successful. You’ll be glad you did, and pleased with the outcome.
International Women’s Day is a springboard for action. Let’s champion women in leadership and build a more equitable and successful future for everyone.
